The Church is Called to Be Missional. Continuing from that idea, when our main idea of reaching people is to say “come to us” we are missing a big part of our calling to be missional. The structure as it looks now is to set up the church and make it as appealing as possible so to attract sinners like the flame does moth. The problem with that is that most of the time the flashy cool concert feel is only cool to Christians tired of sitting in pews. The people that don’t know Christ can get their coffee from Starbucks, their concerts with better music and crazier pyro, and their entertainment from tv, movies and sports; so they have little need for more of it in church. Instead, we should be putting our focus into going into these places and not starting our own, less cool version. We are called to go and make disciples, not stay home and hope they see the signs. If you want to play basketball, go to the rec center and be the light of Christ there. Want coffee? Go to jittery joes and be a picture of Jesus to the kid behind the counter. We need to be missional and meet people where they are, not entertain ourselves and hope it catches on in the process. It’s time to go. Gimme your thoughts.
